Since becoming Emeritus I can no longer take on new PhD students.
Before coming to Manchester as Professor of Political Theory I was Professor of Economics at the University of Southampton, where I was also Dean of the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences. I have held visiting posts at The Centre for Study of Public Choice, Virginia, USA; All Souls College, Oxford; and the Australian National University. From 2001-2010 I was a Member of the UK Competition Commission.
I am currently a member of the Editorial Boards of a number of journals including: Politics, Philosophy and Economics; Constitutional Political Economy: and The Journal of Theoretical Politics.
From November 2013 I am Emeritus, but srill actively involved in research.
