Alejandro is a PhD researcher at the Work and Equalities Institute (WEI) and also a member of the Doctoral Network of the Digital Futures at Work Research Centre (Digit) and the Interuniversity Research Centre on Globalization and Work (CRIMT). He holds a MSc in Social Sciences and a BA in Sociology, both at the University of Chile. His research interest are Labour and Organizational Studies, Industrial Relations and Political Economy.
Alejandro's doctoral project addresses how socio-technical transformations have shaped the retail’ business model and labour process of a multinational company – parent and subsidiary company in the US and Chile respectively. This research project reflects on the importance of decentralising and contextualising debates about technological change and the future of work by considering specific regulatory and labour regimes. His project is supervised by Prof Debra Howcroft and Prof Miguel Martínez Lucio.
In recent years Alejandro has worked as a research assistant at the University of Chile and the University Diego Portales (Chile). In addition, he has worked as an external consultant for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
