Personal profile

Overview

Aleksey Yerokhin is a Senior Lecturer in Surface Engineering of Materials in the Department of Materials at the University of Manchester. His previous academic employment included Universities of Sheffield, Hull and Tula State University (Russia), where he worked as Associate Professor at the Department of Physical-Chemical Processes and Technologies and led major electrochemical research laboratory. He also has several years’ experience of working for industry.

Dr Yerokhin has an extensive expertise in Surface Engineering, with main research areas covering various aspects of plasma-assisted electrolytic, atmospheric pressure and vacuum-based processes for surface treatment and coating of metals to ensure their sustainability and pave new processing routes for manufacturing of novel environmental materials and functional devices.

His pioneering research in Plasma Electrolysis has triggered a world-wide interest and led to breakthrough technological developments. He is regarded as a world-leading authority in this area, renown for development of pulsed bipolar PEO technology, spectroscopic methods of diagnostics and control of electrolytic plasma processes, new protective and functional coatings for metal foams, photovoltaic and biomedical devices.

He has been instrumental in establishing the European PEO network. He acted on 20+ occasions as the Invited/Keynote Speaker at major scientific conferences and has been involved in organisation of 10 major scientific events, including ICMCTF and Euromat Congresses. He has edited 5 special issues of ‘Surface and Coatings Technology’ (Elsevier) and 4 Annual Collections of Works; he also regularly acts as evaluator of research proposals and a referee to leading scientific journals.
