Personal profile

Overview

I trained as a classical singer and a musicologist in Milan before moving to Cardiff in 2013 to pursue a PhD Historical Musicology under the supervision of Prof David Wyn Jones and Prof Clair Rowden. I earned my PhD in 2018 with a project on music, warfare and political change in Northern Italy between Habsburg and French republican regimes (1790-1802). I also undertook projects on music, print culture and media in Milan in the second half of the nineteenth century and up to WWI, especially in relation to the Sonzogno publishing house. I published and disseminated my research extensively in both English and in Italian. In cooperation with the Conservatorio "Giuseppe Verdi" of Milan, I'm also currently involved in a research group on music at the transnational courts of Lombardy (Habsburg-Este and Napoleonic).

I have been Graduate Tutor, Associate Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Music (especially social history of music, opera studies, methodology of musicological research and repertoire studies) at the universities of Cardiff, Trinity St David, Oxford Brookes and Sheffield. I also remained an active and enthusiastic musician, singing with the BBC National Chorus of Wales and the Oxford Bach choir, and pairing up with my research and teaching activities with festival production and assistance (e.g., at Dartington International Summer School, Brecon Baroque and Baroquestock).
