Alison Zimmer is a qualified accountant with CIPFA, having started her career in public sector external audit with the Audit Commission in 2009. After transitioning into professional training with CIPFA, she went on to become a lecturer, first at the University of Huddersfield and later at the University of Manchester in 2020.
Alison is passionate about improving the quality of accounting education, with a focus on bridging the gap between the broad liberal education provided by universities and the specific demands of the accounting profession. Specialising in financial reporting and tax, she leads two large first-year units, where she uses innovative teaching methods to engage students with core accounting principles, while linking these concepts to contemporary, real-world issues. In her current role as Teaching Assistant Coordinator at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), Alison is committed to developing the teaching practices of others, promoting practical pedagogy in classrooms that prioritise well-being, belonging, and equitable opportunities for all students.
