Personal profile

Overview

I teach competition law (both post graduate and undergraduate) at the University of Manchester School of Law and am also a Senior Research Fellow at the UCL Centre for Law, Economics and Society.

I completed my PhD from UCL Laws in 2018 in which I compared the diffusion and transfer of competition laws in India and Pakistan. Since then, I have expanded my research to include the six remaining South Asian countries and my book on Competition Laws in South Asia is due to be published by Cambridge University Press later this year. In addition to the diffusion and transfer of competition laws, I also research institutional design of competition authorities and the boundaries between competition law and human rights, sustainability, and inequality and have published in leading international publications.

I am also a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and prior to proceeding for my PhD, practised corporate, commercial, and constitutional law in Pakistan. I also served as the Head of the Legal Department of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan for two years (2005-2007). I continue to comment on legal issues in the Pakistani and South Asian context through op-eds in the DAWN.
