Biography

Amir completed his first degree with a first-class BSc in Industrial & Systems Engineering in 2008. This was followed by a MSc in Project Management from University of Birmingham (UK) in 2010, and a grade-A PhD in Management of Projects from the University of Manchester (UK) in 2015. During his studies , he worked as an intern in oil & gas, pharmaceutical and maintenance engineering & asset management sectors. 

Prior to his current appointment as a lecturer (assistant professor) in engineering project management, Amir also had full time industrial roles as Head of R&D and R&D Project Manager in maintenance engineering & asset management and manufacturing sectors in the UK. He has successfully managed and delivered a variety of industrial research and innovation projects relevant to Industry 4.0 and digital transformation with a specific focus on big data analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), decision making and robotics. 

Amir currently holds an External Lecturer role at University of Oxford (Saïd Business School), Guest Lecturer and MSc Dissertation Supervisor roles at Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), a Guest Lecturer role at University of Liverpool (Management School), an External Examiner role at Staffordshire University, and an Innovation Strategy Advisor role at Electrocomponents plc (now RS Group plc) as well.  

Research interests

1. Strategic Management - organisational restructuring, transformation & change, strategic alliances, mergers & acquisitions, strategic risk management.

2. Innovation Management - Industry 4.0 innovation, business model innovation, open innovation, innovation strategy and risk. 

3. Project Management - management of strategic projects (such as energy projects including but not limited to oil & gas and renewable energy), management of megaprojects, innovation project management, project strategy, project portfolio management, project risk management, project communications management, project stakeholder management, project governance. 

4. Project Management Education - teaching methods, digital tools and techniques for more effective Teaching and Learning (T&L). 

5. Corporate Culture, Organisational Behaviour and Leadership Performance Assessment.

6. Maintenance Engineering & Asset Management - maintenance strategy, condition based maintenance.  

7. Application of Technology (including but not limited to Data Mining, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Decision Making Support/Expert Systems, Quantum Computing, Robotic Systems) in maintenance engineering and asset management, project management, management and education context.
