Biography

Hello! I am a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies (CTIS) at the University of Manchester where I teach on the MA in Intercultural Communication.

Before joining CTIS in September 2022, I was an Early Career Fellow (post-doc, 04/22-09/22) in the Institure of Advanced Studies (IAS) at the University of Warwick, where I also spent four rewarding years in the Department of Applied Linguistics as a postgraduate student (MSc and PhD). In the past, I had also been an Associate Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London (01/22-06/22). I obtained my BA in Enlgish Language & Literature from the University of Athens, Greece.

Research interests

My research interests lie in the fields of Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis and Intercultural Communication more broadly, and in leadership - followership, sports communication and identity construction more specifically. As a member of the Sports Culture and Communication Research Collective, I had the pleasure to participate (and act partially as a research assistant) in research projects where we have explored the crucial role of language in high performance sports. These were conducted in partnership with Boxing England and UK Coaching.

Together with colleagues from Warwick, Ghent University and KU Leuven, we have conducted research on COVID-19 narratives and identity construction on Instagram as well as on othering and identity negotiation in examples of verbal aggression. More recently, together with colleagues from political science, I started undertaking research in the intersections of linguistics and politics in the media.
