Overview

Dr Andrew C Grundy is a Lived Experience Researcher in the School of Health Sciences. He is Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Co-Lead in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery & Social Work. 

Research interests

Andrew's research interests are in understanding experiences of 'mental health' and of mental health service provision from service user/survivor perspectives. He is also interested in critical approaches to Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and to co-production in research.

Biography

Andrew utilises his experiences of severe mental distress (psychosis) and of using mental health services (EIP; CMHT; acute inpatient; psychology) in his research.

He came into research as a 'patient co-applicant' on a programme of research exploring improving service user involvement in mental health care planning (EQUIP; University of Nottingham/Manchester). And has worked on developing a trauma-informed training package on de-escalation in mental health ward-based settings (EDITION; University of Manchester).

Andrew's PhD was a critical ethnography exploring service user perspectives and experiences of risk assessment and management in an acute psychiatric setting (University of Nottingham).

Andrew is currently working on the SUSTAIN project, looking to develop a support-package for service users to help manage the hunger side-effects of antipsychotics.
