Professor Gale spent twenty seven years at The University of Manchester’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, becoming Professor Emeritus in 2017. He then served, for six years, strategic lead for the development of the University of Cumbria’s Industrial Strategy and project management discipline until 2023.
Whilst at Manchester he developed project management education for managers in the UAE, USA, Russia, Rwanda, Brazil, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Singapore and the UK.
His current academic and research interests are concerned with art projects within the discipline of Fine Art. He holds a first class honours degree in Fine Art, from Sheffield Hallam University and a Foundation Degree in Creative Art and Design Practice from the University of Derby. He is a practicing artist and curator, exhibiting in the UK and USA. Whilst at Manchester he collaborated with artists at Manchester School of Art to develop and deliver postgraduate conceptual design curriculum for combined groups of engineering and fine art students.
He was leader of the Management of Projects Research Group and founding academic for the MSc Project Management Professional Development Programme, a flexible modular programme led by an industrial consortium comprising: Rolls-Royce, AMEC, AEC, Sellafield and E.on. He was the Manchester lead academic in the founding of the British University in Dubai (BUiD) Partnership.
Andrew is a graduate of Brunel, Bath, Sheffield Hallam and Derby Universities. He spent 13 years in industry, in the UK and Middle East, prior to his academic career in 1985. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, with significant experience of collaborating with industry, internationally, including Russian and Singaporean higher education institutions in the development of masters education for engineers and project managers.
He served on BUiD Senate and has held several external examinerships and visiting chairs. For nine years he was a board member of the Global Accreditation Center - Project Management Institute, in the United States.
