I have been working as a post doctoral scientist to lead the research into complications of peritoneal dialysis. I have developed a programme of research to investigate the serious condition of Encapsulating peritoneal Sclerosis a rare but severe complication of peritoneal dialysis. I have initiated an international collaborations to try to identify genetic susceptibility factors in humans to this disease which may in the future influence their clinical management. Recently I have focussed on the molecular mechanisms of peritoneal injury of particular interest is cytokines and growth factors and their impact on the peritoneum in terms of fibrosis and vascular damage.
