Personal profile

Overview

Anisa is a Houghton Dunn Fellow at Manchester Foundation Trust. She will complete her clinical training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medicine in the summer of 2025.

Anisa has followed a clinical and academic training route (completing an NIHR ACL in 2024), combining her interests in global health and emergency care. She completed a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene in 2010 (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine), a Master in Public Health with Emergency Humanitarian Assistance in 2014 (University of Manchester) and a PhD in Medical Documentation by Emergency Medical Teams in Sudden Onset Disasters in 2019 (HCRI, University of Manchester). In that same year she became a founding member of the Global Emergency Care Collaborative (GECCo) and works very closely with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), sitting on their Global Emergency Medicine committee and taking on deputy Chair of their Research & Publications committee. In these latter roles Anisa manages RCEM’s Low & Middle Income Country (LMIC)  grants.  Her work has afforded the opportunity to work with international colleagues at the World Health Organisation,  international emergency medicine societies within Europe, Asia and Africa and NGOs such as UK-Med.

She has wide research interests within the domain of access-, resource-, and context-limited healthcare (ARC-H) especially with respect to emergency care; most recently this has focused on the bilateral impact of working between UK emergency care and ARC-H settings. Anisa's research interests combine qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as a focus on data and information gaps.  She is especially keen to develop work using ethnographic approaches to gain knowledge and understanding of those areas of emergency care which cannot be easily captured using other methods.
