Research: Application of Radio-pharmaceuticals in Biological and Medical Sciences.

Research interests

  • Body distribution of vCJD drug, PPS, following its intravenous, subcutaneous and oral dosing
  • Screening of newly synthesized radiolabelled heart scanning agents
  • Radio-iodination of biological molecules for use as tracers

  • Investigation of pharmacokinetics and organ distribution of radiolabelled drugs in various laboratory models

Biography

Senior Lecturer in Medical Education and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I  began my career in the research laboratories investigating "Radiopharmaceuticals and their application in medical and clinical research". This resulted in me having fifty two publications to date, in various scientific journals, abstracts, and conferene proceedings.   

I undertook a teaching role in the Pre-medical year (Foundation Programme MBChB/BDS), which I am now Co-director of. This successful programme has expanded greatly and now includes international students.  My other roles on the MBChB programme include Academic Advisor and PEP supervisr.  As a Tutor for Pastoral Support for Years 0-2 in the MBChB programme, I offer various sources of support within the university to students with personal, acdemic, financial and health issues.
