Barbara Waters is Programme Director for Fashion Business & Technology Undergraduate Studies and a Lecturer in Fashion Business in the Department of Materials. She joined the Fashion Business & Technology team at the University of Manchester in 2019 to help design and develop the online distance learning MSc programme in International Fashion Marketing.

Barbara has many years of teaching experience in higher education. Prior to joining the University of Manchester she was leader of the BA Fashion Marketing programme at the University of Leeds. She also previously worked at the University of Bolton, where she led the Engineering subject group and was a Principal Lecturer teaching Fashion and Textile Marketing.

Barbara has recently completed a PhD investigating the use of fashion brand names in British chick lit. 

Research interests

Barbara's research interests relate to fashion branding and product placement. She is particularly interested in the role that fashion brand names play in women's contemporary fiction.
