Personal profile

Biography

I am the Programme Director for Fashion Business & Technology Undergraduate Studies and a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Business in the Department of Materials at the University of Manchester.

With over thirty years of experience in higher education, I have held several academic leadership roles including Programme Leader for the BA Fashion Marketing programme at the University of Leeds, and Principal Lecturer and Head of Engineering at the University of Bolton, where I led a diverse team of teaching staff and managed extensive academic and administrative responsibilities.

My academic journey includes recent completion of a part-time PhD, which investigated the use of fashion brand names in British chick lit, blending my interests in popular fiction and fashion marketing.

My scholarly interests focus on enhancing teaching, learning, and the student experience, aligning with my active engagement with professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, ASBCI and the Textile Institute. These relationships ensure that my teaching remains relevant and informed by current industry practices.

In addition to my work at the University of Manchester, I am an external examiner for fashion business courses at other UK universities.

Research interests

My research interests relate to fashion branding and product placement. I am particularly interested in the role that fashion brand names play in women's contemporary fiction.

Pedagogy

I am interested in flexible learning, belonging and group work in higher education. Passionate about quality education, I have contributed to the planning and delivery of the University of Manchester’s annual Teaching & Learning Conference. I also mentor new staff and engage in continuing professional development to keep my teaching methods innovative and impactful.
