Bilal Alkhaffaf is a Consultant Oesophago-Gastric Surgeon at Salford Royal Foundation Trust. He qualified from the University of Manchester in 2003 and completed his surgical training in the North West of England. He has a specialist interest in minimally invasive surgery and has expanded his experience in this field by visiting international centres of excellence in the United States, South Korea and The Netherlands.

His clinical expertise includes the management of malignant and benign conditions of the oesophagus and stomach and obesity and metabolic disorders. He has expertise in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and thoracoscopic) and has developed an international fellowship programme which primarily aims to develop surgeons wishing to develop their skills in this field.

Bilal's research focus includes the reporting of outcomes in surgery. In 2013 Mr Alkhaffaf was awarded a ‘National Institute for Health Research Doctoral Research Fellowship’, funding a 5-year international study to standardise the reporting of outcomes in future gastric cancer surgery trials.
