Biyun's research draws on knowledge from multiple disciplines, including public policy, international relations, history, and administration. She employs policy and governance as lenses to explore broader topics such as cultural and educational organisations, the creative industries, cultural diplomacy, and soft power. Her primary focus is on international comparative studies that examine cultural and educational practices as strategic components of foreign policy, highlighting similarities and differences, and investigating the interactions between governments, organisations, and individuals.
Biyun Zhu is a Lecturer in Cultural Policy and Governance at the University of Manchester. She received her PhD in Cultural Policy and Arts Management, with a minor in Public Policy and Management, from The Ohio State University. Previously, she earned a master’s degree in Public Policy from King’s College London and a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of International Business and Economics. She has also conducted research and collaborated with government and international organisations, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the United Nations, and UNESCO.
