My career in education began as a teacher of economics and business in the early 1990s at a sixth form college with a diverse intake. This is where my interest in social justice and diversity developed, with a HEFC funded research report on barriers to the progression to university of Pakistani heritage boys. I've worked as a senior leader in two colleges and also as a Head of Department in an international school. My career experience spans academic and pastoral roles. I'm also Vice Chair of Governors at a local Secondary school.
I now teach undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and am the Subject Lead for the Secondary PGCE in Economics/Business Education in Manchester Institute of Education. My research interests are in social justice and radicalisation and extremism, including the workings of the Prevent duty in schools and colleges.
