Biography

Bulbul Prakash is a PhD researcher at the University of Manchester. Her research explores everyday violence and acts of resistance among Adivasi women in Chhattisgarh, focusing on the lived experiences of marginalized communities in India's conflict-affected regions. Through her work, she aims to shed light on the intersection of gender, violence, and resistance, contributing to a deeper understanding of structural inequalities and the agency of marginalized groups. Her research examines how various forms of violence—both overt and structural—manifest in  "everyday" and influence the social, economic, and political realities of communities. By adopting a feminist perspective, she explores how women navigate these challenges and the strategies they employ to resist and transform these conditions.

Bulbul’s academic work is driven by a commitment to understanding the nuanced intersections of gender, violence, and peacebuilding. She is particularly interested in how grassroots peacebuilding initiatives can be enhanced by incorporating the lived experiences of women.

Looking forward, Bulbul plans to establish a non-governmental organization that will create safe spaces for women and children affected by conflict. This NGO will provide support, empowerment, and resources to help survivors of everyday violence rebuild their lives and actively participate in peace processes, with a focus on community-driven, gender-sensitive interventions. Through her work, she strives to build a bridge between academic research and grassroots initiatives for lasting social change.
