Biography

Caroline completed her BSc in Economics and MSc in Health Economics from the University of Birmingham in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Her master’s dissertation involved assessing the information available in primary and secondary care databases to health economists evaluating diabetes resource use.

In 2011, Caroline was awarded an NIHR School for Primary Care Research Doctoral Fellowship to investigate the framing of risk attributes in discrete choice experiments (DCEs). The PhD acquired information on women's preferences for breast screening and their valuation of the associated risks and benefits. The PhD sought to understand how competing risk presentation formats affected cognition, decision rules, and the (robustness of) the valuations derived, through the use of traditional quantitative analyses, qualitative research and eye-tracking methods. The PhD was supervised by Professor Katherine Payne (Health Economics); Professor Daniel Rigby (Environmental Economics) and Professor Stephen Campbell (Primary Care).

In 2014, Caroline won a Lee B Lusted Student Prize for her poster presentation "Investigating the framing of risk attributes in a discrete choice experiment: an application of eye-tracking and think aloud" at the Society for Medical Decision Making's 36th Annual North American Meeting in Miami.

Caroline became a Reserach Fellow at the Manchester Centre for Health Economics in March 2015. Caroline worked on a 6-year research programme called ‘Mind the Risk’. Co-ordinated by The Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics at Uppsala University, this international interdisciplinary programme of work is funded by The Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, Riksbanken Jubileumsfond.

In November 2019, Caroline became an Honarary Research Fellow in the Manchester Centre for Health Economics at The University of Manchester.
