Personal profile

Overview

I am a BHF-funded PhD student working with Prof. Elizabeth Cartwright. I am interested in understanding how the Plasma Membrane Calcium ATPase 1 (PMCA1) affects cardiac remodelling during heart failure progression. My project merges computational and experimental methodologies to delve into the mechanisms of action of PMCA1 and its impact in cardiac health.

Employing cutting-edge machine learning techniques and bioinformatics pipelines, I analyse the transcriptome of both the entire heart and individual cardiac cells. Simultaneously, I validate key bioinformatic discoveries in vivo, in vitro, and ex vivo using a diverse array of techniques, including Langendorff perfusion, qPCR, western blotting, and a variety of histological staining methods (IF and IHC).

By seamlessly blending bioinformatics and molecular biology, I navigate the role of a "hybrid scientist." This approach allows me to unravel the complexities of heart failure and cardiac remodelling with a multidisciplinary and exhaustive perspective.
