Overview

Senior Technical Specialist in Photonics

I lead the provision of Photon science within the Advanced Photonics and Manufacturing Core Facility in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. I am responsible for coordinating the support and development of cutting edge optical and electronic research techniques, primarily utilising the faculty's suite of advanced laser facilities. The core of these systems are based in the Photon Science Institute, from which I lead a team of technicians dedicated to supporting photonics research, training facility users, and operating and maintaining the equipment.

My research expertise lies in optical and electronic characterisation of nanomaterials and optoelectronic devices utilising a range of optical techniques, with a focus on ultrafast laser spectroscopy. My technical expertise covers the operation and maintenance of broad range of laser and optical equipment, including femtosecond Ti:Sapphire lasers, narrow line-width ring-cavity lasers, diode laser, optical microscopes, and electronic measurements. Research techniques I support include: Transient absorption spectroscopy. Photoluminescence spectroscopy, lifetime, and quantum yield. Photoluminescence upconversion spectroscopy. Cryogenic and magneto-optic studies. Optoelectronic device fabrication and characterisation.
