Overview

Charlotte is an academic GP. She trained in Cardiff, graduating with honours for her undergraduate medical training. She completed an intercalated degree in Clinical Epidemiology, and was awarded the Peter Ellwood Prize for her undergraduate dissertation. This explored factors associated with abusive head trauma, under the supervision of Prof Alison Kemp and Dr Sabine Maguire. 

Charlotte then completed Academic Foundation Training in the West Midlands, working on a project examining cognitive impairment in people with COPD, which developed her interested in research with people with dementia.

She was awarded an Academic Clinical Fellowship at the University of Manchester in 2017, completing an MPH with distinction during this time, alongside being awarded the RCGP Speciality Trainee Award 2021.

After completing an NIHR In-Practice Fellowship, she was awarded a prestigious NIHR School for Primary Care Research Doctoral fellowship (2023). Her doctoral studies focus on health inequalities for people with dementia, using a mixed-methods approach. She is supervised by Prof Tom Blakeman, Prof Darren Ashcroft, Prof Evan Kontopantelis, and Prof Dame Louise Robinson. 

Charlotte's doctoral research includes a scoping review, a quantitative analysis using the CPRD database and qualitative interviews with people with dementia. Charlotte won the European Young Family Doctors Movement Early Career Researcher Award (2024) for her doctoral research to date. 

She practices clinically as a GP, holding postgraduate diplomas in women's health, sexual health and menopause. Charlotte also runs the successful RCGP exchange programme, which enables eary career GPs to experience observerships in primary care in different countries, promoting collaboration and shared learning.
