Biography

Dr Chathuranganee Jayakody is a Lecturer in Architecture and Urbanism at the Manchester School of Architecture. She also works with the Department of Planning and Environmental Management at the School of Environment Education and Development (SEED). Her role includes teaching in the area of Urbanism, Urban Design, Urban planning, and Neighbourhood Planning and supervising master’s Dissertations in Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, and Urban Regeneration. Before joining the University of Manchester, she was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Huddersfield and a research member of the Global Disaster Resilience Centre. She has worked in the Planning and Building Control department at Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council.

She completed her PhD in ‘Architecture and the Built Environment’ at the University of Huddersfield. She did her master’s degree in Urban Design at the University of Salford. She graduated from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, with a first-class honours degree in Town and Country Planning.  Her current research interest is in the areas of Nature-inspired planning and design solutions, built environment perspective of displacement, Planning and designing Sustainable Shared Spaces and Public Open Spaces, Urban planning and urban designing interventions for disaster resilience.
