Biography

Lecturer, Reader , then Professor in the UMIST Physics Department and I served a term as Head of Department for 2 years immediately leading up to the merger of UMIST and the Victoria University of Manchester.  At this time the Atmospheric Physics Research Group joined with Earth Sciences to form the School of Earth Atmospheric and Environmental Science in the University of Manchester. The Centre for Atmospheric Science was created within that School. I served as Head of School for 3.5 years up to January 2011 and I am now head of the Centre for Atmospheric Science. Awarded Mason Gold Medal by Royal Meteorological Society for outstanding contributions to Atmospheric Science

Cloud microphysics , cloud aerosol interactions. The formation of precipitation in frontal and convective weather systems, severe storms
