Research interests

I am interested in using (biometric) data from music performers to stimulate, interact with and drive musical systems (e.g,. VR). To do this, I am using wearable sensors (gestural interfaces) which measure how the arms move and how the muscles within them behave. Machine learning is used to pair this biometric data with digital music systems. I have recently begun to investigate how to use AI to drive new forms of music composition.

Biography

My research seeks to provoke the line between science and the sonic arts. It navigates this by investigating how biometric datasets, taken from wearable sensors, can allow us to engage with digital technologies (e.g. VR) in novel ways. If successful, innovative forms of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in musical composition can emerge. I am also a Fellow of AdvanceHE (formerly the Higher Education Academy).
