Overview

"I was put on this earth to be kind to other people. What the other people are for I don't know."

Doctoral Researcher in Sociology at the University of Manchester. Research area: masculinity, misogyny and sexual violence prevention in the UK radical left.

I hold a BA in English Literature, and an MPhil in Multi-Disciplinary Gender Studies, from Cambridge University. Outside of academia, I have worked as a sex educator, a mental health support worker, and a safeguarding officer for a major children's charity.

Alongside my PhD, I teach Sociology and Criminology at UoM, I teach on the MSC course in Management at Manchester Metropolitan University, and lecture in Criminology at the University of Law.

My general concern as an academic is the radical dissemination of knowledge. Far too often, we talk about Public Sociology, or what have you, but never seek to weaponize our knowledge to empower activists and radical opposing austerity, state apparatus, and the far right. This informs my interest in social movements, but also my more general research interests.

My general research interests are:

  • Left-wing social movements in the UK
  • Affect and culture among Grassroots Activists
  • Masculinities and anti-sexist politics
  • Sex work and pornography
  • Safe spaces policies and resilience among students
  • Responses to domestic violence among LGBT Communities
  • Sex for rent arrangements and structural violence in housing policy

My extracurricular interests include creative writing, stand-up comedy, Warhammer 40k, and going to the gym.
