Mindfulness with preclinical medical students
The inability to cope with the enormous stress of medical education may result in personal and professional consequences. Research conducted with undergraduate medical students at St Andrews and Manchester suggested that one in four were categorised as ‘burned-out.’ In 2013/14, 7% of Manchester Medical School students met with Student Welfare and Professionalism in order to interrupt their degree. Resilience and positive mental well-being are key to student retention and degree attainment. This project seeks to assess whether mindfulness meditation, is effective at increasing well-being and resilience and reducing burnout levels in early stage undergraduate medical students.
