Biography

Dr Craig Skerritt is a Lecturer in Education at the Manchester Institute of Education (MIE), University of Manchester. Amongst his teaching, he leads the Engaging with Research in Educational Leadership unit on the MA Educational Leadership in Practice programme. Dr Skerritt is also MIE’s Impact Director.

An active researcher in policy, leadership, and sociology, Dr Skerritt is a member of the Critical Education Leadership and Policy (CELP) research group at MIE. He published a book with Bloomsbury in 2024 entitled Consulting Students on Classroom Practice, ‘Good’ Teaching and Teacher Performance: A Critical Account of Student Voice in Contemporary Schools and is currently editing two books that will be published in 2026: Advising on and Making Education Policy: New Perspectives on Past and Present Procedures and Opportunities and Challenges for Policy Advice and Policy Making in Education: Future Possibilities. Dr Skerritt regularly presents his research at conferences around the world, and he has given a keynote address at the University of Manchester Middle East Centre. He has also given talks at the invitations of England’s Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted) and Ireland’s Ombudsman for Children.

Outside of MIE, Dr Skerritt convenes the British Educational Research Association’s Educational Research and Educational Policy-Making special interest group, and he is also the secretary and treasurer of the Educational Studies Association of Ireland’s Critical and Feminist Research Policy Analysis special interest group. Moreover, he serves on the editorial board of British Educational Research Journal, is an external evaluator on the University of Malta’s Research Excellence Fund programme and he has examined doctoral theses at the following institutions: Mary Immaculate College; Maynooth University; The University of Western Australia; University of Limerick; and University of Oxford.
