Biography

As a Technical Assistant to the Faculty of Humanities, I provide essential technical support across the Martin Harris Centre (MHC), Humanities Bridgeford Street (HBS), Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS), and Arthur Lewis Building (ALB), ensuring smooth operations for staff, faculty, and students. With over four years of experience in live events and AV, I have developed a versatile skill set that spans a wide range of technical roles. My responsibilities include supporting music and drama in the MHC, the B.15 workshop in the HBS, the AV and printing team in AMBS, and the S.E.E.D. labs in the ALB.

In the MHC, I focus on providing technical support for music and drama productions. Whether it's setting up sound systems, adjusting lighting, or troubleshooting AV equipment during rehearsals and live performances, I ensure that every technical detail is handled to deliver high-quality productions. I also work closely with faculty and students, offering advice and assistance to enhance the technical aspects of their creative work.

At the HBS, I work as a machinist in the B.15 workshop, supporting students and faculty with a variety of practical, hands-on projects. My responsibilities include maintaining and operating workshop machinery, ensuring safe and efficient use of equipment, and providing guidance on technical processes. Whether assisting with the fabrication of materials or troubleshooting machine issues, I play an integral role in ensuring that the workshop operates smoothly and that students have the tools they need for their learning and research.

In AMBS, I collaborate with the AV and printing team, assisting with the setup and maintenance of AV equipment for lectures and presentations, as well as managing printing and copying services. My role ensures that academic and administrative activities run smoothly, with minimal technical disruption. I support faculty and students with quick solutions to any equipment issues, helping to maintain a productive and efficient academic environment.

In the ALB, I focus on my role as a lab technician for the S.E.E.D. labs, providing essential technical support for the lab's educational and research activities. I assist in the preparation and maintenance of lab equipment, ensuring that all tools and instruments are in working order for both teaching and student research. This includes managing lab setups, ensuring health and safety compliance, and providing technical guidance to faculty and students working within the labs. My role also involves maintaining the integrity of lab data and ensuring that all technical aspects of the lab environment contribute to a positive, effective learning experience.

In addition to my core responsibilities, I am committed to supporting and promoting cross-disciplinary projects across all faculties. By collaborating with different departments, I help foster innovative approaches that bring together diverse academic fields, ensuring technical support is available to realize the potential of these projects. This collaborative approach enhances the impact and success of academic, research, and creative endeavors across the university.

Beyond my technical expertise, I am a certified Fire Marshal and First Aider. I am committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone within the buildings I support, regularly participating in fire drills, risk assessments, and emergency planning. My dual focus on technical excellence and safety ensures that I can respond effectively in any emergency situation.

Throughout my career, I have developed a strong reputation for adaptability, attention to detail, and effective collaboration. I am passionate about providing the technical support needed to make teaching, research, and events successful. I look forward to continuing to contribute my skills and experience to the Faculty of Humanities and the wider academic community, always with a focus on both technical precision and safety.
