Biography

Debra Howcroft is Professor of Technology and Organisation in the People, Management and Organisation Division of Alliance Manchester Business School.  She served as (co) Editor-in-Chief of New Technology, Work and Employment (2012-2023).

Broadly, Debra’s research interests cover the area of new technology and organising, in relation to work and employment.  Ongoing research examines how digitalisation is shaping and influencing working practices, changing skills and reframing occupational identities. A second research interest concerns technology workers and how workplace change, shifting labour markets, and new technological developments shape work experiences. The final area concerns the role of platforms in coordinating distributed labour, and the implications for our understanding of contemporary work and employment.
