Biography
My research broadly explores human-animal-technology relations in industrial contexts, poultry commodity/supply chains and the links between zoonotic diseases and industrial animal agriculture. My PhD research at Manchester aims to investigate biosecurity in the chicken industry and the role of science (poultry science) in its knowledge claims and the employment of a wide range of biotechnologies for both efficiency and sanitary gains.
For my master’s research at Bogazici University, I examined the poultry supply chain through a comparative analysis of the industries in Turkey, the US and the EU, and studied the political economical implications of 2005-2006 avian influenza (bird flu) outbreaks in Turkey. Previously, I have also been interested in exploring representation of animals in film, exemplified by my dissertation project on the critical potentials of anthropomorphic animal representations in mainstream animation movies that I carried out during my undergraduate years at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
