Personal profile
Overview
My interests are at the intersections of political resistance, class formation and identity. My PhD research is on the ways in which lumpen-proletariat political organising is impacted by gendered, racialised and classed identities. With primary focus on how whiteness and masculinity impact the forms of political solidarity praciticed by white cis-men in economically marginalised communtities.
Biography
I am a care leaver, ex-prisoner and former houseless person. Prior to first attending University at the age of 28 I worked in the informal economy from the ages of 7 until my mid-20's. Having left school unable to read and without any qualificiations I took an Access Course in order to begin a Sociology Degree. However I decided to drop out of University of Nottingham after a year to focus on working within the radical left of social movement organising.
I restarted my academic trajectory at the age of 35 with the Open University where I completed my Undergradutate Degree in Sociology and Politics. This was followed by an Masters in Performance at Liverpool Hope University with a focus on autoethnography, queer studies and class.
In 2020 I recieved 1+3 funding for an MsC in Sociological Reseach and my current PhD research. My research is informed by my political involvement, class background and unusual academic trajectory.
