Biography

Efthymia (Effie) Amanatidou joined the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research as a full-time Research Associate in November 2011. Her first degree is in Applied Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). She also has an MSc in Technical Change and Industrial Strategy (1996) and a PhD in foresight evaluation (2011) from the University of Manchester / MIoIR. Her PhD thesis focused on creating a new impact assessment framework and methodology for evaluating foresight programmes based on their contribution to developing more participatory ‘knowledge societies’.  Before she joined MIoIR she was a free-lance research and innovation policy analyst for five years (2006-2011). During that period she participated in research and innovation policy studies funded by the European Commission, She was also invited as an individual expert or was assigned the role of rapporteur in a number of expert groups set up by the European Commission. From 1996-2006 she was Head of the Science and Technology Policy Studies Unit of Atlantis Consulting S.A., a private firm located in Thessaloniki, Greece. Since November 2011 she has been working at MIoIR on a variety of projects with a special focus on innovation policy and foresight as well as evaluation.

Effie Amanatidou has more than 15 years of experience in research and innovation policy analysis including in particular foresight studies and evaluation / impact assessment of research policies and programmes. During this time she has closely collaborated with a number of European Commission and Members States’ policy-makers, distinguished researchers and corporate managers. This resulted in an extensive network of professional contacts world-wide. Effie Amanatidou has been invited in several conferences as speaker and published in a number of scientific journals.
