Our research is focused on the development of “smart”, catalytic destroyers of harmful microRNAs that can find, capture and demolish microRNAs over-expressed in the disease states (i.e., cancer, neuroinflammation, Alzheimer’s disease). To engineer such catalytic agents, we chemically link together a short DNA fragment (to bind particular stretches of microRNA) with catalytic peptides (to destroy them by cleavage into small non-functional fragments).
