Overview

Elena is a medical doctor (dr med) specialising in clinical imaging, healthcare informatics and safe care. Her clinical work focuses on musculoskeletal and osteoporosis imaging with expertise in adult and pediatric bone densitometry and vertebral fracture assesment. Elena has served as the clinical lead of the osteoporosis DXA services at MFT for 6 years, providing expert pediatric and adult DXA and CT bone densitometry and vertebral fracture assessment care. She is an honorary academic clinical fellow at the University of Manchester and an associate lecturer in diagnostic imaging at the University of Derby. 

She is a member of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology Osteoporosis subcommittee and the Royal Osteoporosis Society National Training Accreditation committee. She provides expert consulting for BiobankUK.

Elena's research work focuses on clinical informatics and safe care. She works as a member of a highly skilled and internationally renowned team with academics and entrepreneurs. Their project involves the development of an artificial intelligence tool and the design of a service to improve the incidental identification of osteoporotic vertebral fractures, the implementation of opportunistic osteoporosis screening and the design of holistic care for people with osteoporosis. She served in the Royal Osteoporosis Society Osteoporosis and Bone Research Academy Technology working group. She is a member of the IEEE Greece Section Women in Engineering Affinity Group and a full member of the UK Faculty of Clinical Informatics.

Elena's ongoing research on patient safety and safe care uses institutional ethnography to gain insight into the social organisation of learning and practising safe care. She is a member of the international community of institutional ethnographers and the institutional ethnography division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems. Eleni is the founder of the international institutional ethnography reading club and study group IE Perspective.

Elena holds a competitive postgraduate research scholarship from Queen's University Belfast and completed a competitive FMLM Aspiring National Leadership scholarship from the Royal Osteoporosis Society.
