Overview

Erna Megawati Manna is a PhD researcher at the Department of Planning, Property, and Environmental Management, University of Manchester. She holds a joint master’s degree in Regional Development Planning and Management from the Spatial Planning for Regions in Growing Economies (SPRING) program at Fakultät Raumplanung, Technische Universität Dortmund, and Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Administrativas, Universidad Austral de Chile. She works as a planner at the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Board of Sumba Barat Daya in Indonesia, where she is involved in various plans and research related to renewable energy, town planning, community development, and similar areas. Her research interests include environmental issues, climate change, sustainable cities, and islands. In her recent research work with the Solution for Renewable Energy Off-Grid (Sumba Renewable Energy Group/SREG), her team investigated the need for clean energy in indigenous villages located in frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged communities. The project also provided the local community and government with sustainable photovoltaic management learning that is suitable for the village. Currently, she is focusing her research on sustainable smart islands in relation to their energy transition, environmental change, and climate resilience.
