Biography

Fotis joined the Manchester Law School in September 2015. In addition to his LLB (A.U. Thessaloniki), he holds a PhD (Cantab), an LLM (First Class; Cantab) on EU Law and International Human Rights, an LLM (Distinction; A.U. Thessaloniki) on Civil Law, Civil Procedure and Labour Law. His PhD thesis, researched at the University of Cambridge, examined collective labour rights within the suggested constitutional structure of EU law.

Prior to joining Manchester he worked as a Teaching Associate at the University of Cambridge Faculty of Law, where he also taught Constitutional, Labour and EU Law for various colleges, and, briefly, as a Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Thessaloniki (Labour Law). Before fully committing to academia he was a practising barrister in Greece, working predominantly on labour law.

Fotis sits on the editorial board of the Greek Labour Law Review journal (Epitheorisi Ergatikou Dikaiou), and on the organising committee of the Moving Labour Collective (MLC), a community of academics and researchers working on labour law and related studies and open to trade unions and activists.

He is a member of Hughes Hall (Cambridge) and of the Thessaloniki Bar (Greece), now as a non-practising barrister. He is also a member of the Academic Network on European Social Charter and Social Rights (RACSE/ANESC).

Research interests

Fotis's research focuses on labour law theory and collective labour law, EU law, and constitutional theory. His PhD thesis, researched in Cambridge, examined collective labour rights within the suggested constitutional structure of EU law ('Collective Labour Rights after the Treaty of Lisbon as an element of the substantive constitutionalisation of EU law'). He has also conducted research on the Euro crisis, inter alia co-editing the volume 'The Crisis Behind the Eurocrisis (CUP, 2019) with Dr Eva Nanopoulos (QMUL). He has also previously worked on various subjects of Greek Civil and Civil Procedure Law and has taken part in coding Greek Labour Law, using leximetrics analysis for the Centre for Business Research (Cambridge).

His current work continues to revolve around EU constitutionalism, on the one hand, and labour law and regulation on the other. Within the context of the latter he is presently engaged in collaborative research on the effects of digitisation on work and employment relationships, as part of the Jean Monnet Project 'Discourses on the constitutional identity of the European Union: the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights'.
