Overview

Francisco is a Lecturer in Politics and the Director of the MA in Political Science, pathway in European Studies. He holds a Sociology degree and a master 's in Political Science from the University of Chile and is currently a postgraduate researcher at The University of Manchester. His doctoral research focuses on electoral volatility in Latin America during the "pink tide", examining how economic performance and social inequalities have influenced electoral outcomes and voter behaviour in the region. His work highlights the role of subnational and gender inequalities in shaping electoral processes.

Previously, Francisco was a research associate on the MOBILISE Project, where he studied determinants of protest and migration using longitudinal survey data from four countries. He also contributed to The READY Study, a longitudinal project involving deaf young people in the UK, and based at SORD in the Department of Social Work at The University of Manchester. Beyond academica, Francisco has experience working in local government in Chile and as an independent consultant.

His broader research itnerests include political behaviour, political parties, gender and LGBT+ politics, and social stratification.
