Personal profile
Overview
My research, under the supervision of Dr Frederique Janssen-Lauret, involves three main elements:
1. Studying the work of Susan Stebbing, particularly her critical thinking methods. This is my primary interest and is the basis for the whole of my research.
Susan Stebbing made a significant contribution to the development of analytic philosophy but this is frequently overlooked. I hope my research will make a contribution to giving her work the recognition it merits.
2. I will apply Stebbing's critical thinking methods to the claims made by neuroscientists, especially those that might be of interest to practitioners of talking therapies.
3. Finally, I will consider the influence on contemporary psychotherapy, at the level of theory and practice, of these claims.
Alongside Dr Janssen-Lauret my second supervisor is Professor Rachel Cooper, Lancaster University.
I am grateful to the School of Social Sciences for funding my PhD.
