Overview

Frank is a Professor of Translational & Experimental Medicine and a Podiatric Surgical Fellow at Manchester Foundation Trust within the Departments of Diabetes & Vascular Surgery. He is also the founder and Director of MAVRIC Manchester Academic Vascular Research & Innovation Centre that leads research into vascular pathologies both nationally and internationally. His specialist area of interest is focused on the care of patients with lower limb complications due to diabetes and/or vascular disease. Holding higher postgraduate diplomas in Microsurgery (Pius Branzeu Centre) endorsed by the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive Microsurgery and Neurology under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences A.S.M. 

Frank also holds adjunct posts: Clinical & Academic (Instructor) Professor of Surgery Victor Babes, RO & Nicolae Testemițanu, RM Universities, Schools of Medicine & Pharmacy along with being the external examiner for the Masters in Podiatric Surgery degree (MPS) Univiersity of Huddesfiled UK. 

Clinically overseeing High Risk Lower Limb clinics based at Manchester Foundation Trust and Royal Bolton Hospital along side his long term mentor Professor Andrew J M. Boulton.

As a Senior Clinical Academic he is responsible for:

  • Planning clinical trials/research into lower limb complications with a specialist interest in Diabetes & Vascular disease
  • Developing collaborative research projects with colleagues, both Nationally & Internationally
  • Running undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in lower limb complications
  • Research Lead/Champion for the Manchester Foundation Trust

Collaborating closely with senior colleagues from Medicine, Biology & Health: Andrew Boulton, Professor of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Andrew McBain Professor of Applied Microbiology, Faculty of Health, Curtis Dobson Professor of Translational Biology, Faculty of Biology, University of Manchester. Diabetologists & Vascular Surgeons Manchester Foundation Trust.

National & international colleagues from other Universities & Health Care Centres:  David Armstrong Professor of Surgery, Keck School of Medicine University of Southern California. Mihai Ionac Professor of Vascular & Reconstructive Microsurgery, Victor Babes Uiniversity of Medicine. Frank was awarded an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) from the Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office, in recognition of services to medical organisation’s overseas in the 2023 HM King honours list

Frank is a humanitarian and an advocate of Medical Internships Globally in Healthcare (MIGiH internships) with Projects based both home and overseas. Gaining knowledge & experience of global healthcare issues and a deeper understanding of how medical charities change lives in developing countries.
