Overview

Gabriela is currently a Postgraduate Research & Teaching Associate in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Her research focuses on cardiovascular flow and heart pumps particularly Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD). She completed her MSc in Thermal Power and Fluid Engineering at the University of Manchester. Her PhD examines the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to optimise surgical planning for LVAD implementation.

Gabriela is a Research Fellow in the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Transplantation at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. She is also a member of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) and the IPEM (Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine).

Gabriela's wider research interests include hospital ventilation, renewable energy, and aerodynamic fan design. She is the founder of InvenCenty, a software for calculating the geometrical and aerodynamic parameters for a family of centrifugal fans. Gabriela's main aim is the application of engineering methods to help solve medical problems and improve patient health and wellbeing.
