Personal profile
Biography
I hold a Licence (BA equivalent) in English from the University of Poitiers and a Maîtrise (Master’s equivalent) in Teaching French as a Foreign Language from Université Stendhal, Grenoble.
I obtained Qualified Teacher Status from the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research (CILT), London, and later completed a PGCert in Higher Education at The University of Manchester.
I am currently a Senior Language Tutor in French at The University of Manchester, where I have been teaching since 2001.
I am an experienced and fully qualified French language educator with a specialisation in Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP), including Business French, French for Tourism, and French for Healthcare. Prior to my appointment at Manchester, I taught across secondary and further education sectors in Canada, Hungary, and England, gaining extensive international teaching experience. Alongside my teaching role, I have contributed to several EU-funded translation projects and undertaken professional translation work for cultural and institutional organisations.
A central focus of my practice is enhancing the employability of French-speaking students through curriculum design, assessment, and authentic learning tasks.
Research interests
My research centres on inclusive language education in Higher Education, with particular emphasis on neurodiversity in the language classroom. I am currently investigating teaching strategies and pedagogical frameworks that better support neurodivergent learners and improve their engagement, autonomy, and learning outcomes.
My broader research interests include:
- Neurodiversity and inclusion in language learning
- Inclusive assessment and pedagogy
- Languages for Specific Purposes
- Embedding employability within language curricula
- Technology-enhanced language learning
- Learner autonomy and responsibility in foreign language acquisition
I regularly disseminate my research through conference presentations at national and international level.
Teaching
I teach across French Studies and the University Language Centre, delivering language provision from CEFR levels A1 to C1+. My teaching portfolio includes Business French, French for Healthcare, grammar, translation, and the development of oral and written skills. I am responsible for designing teaching materials and assessments aligned with CEFR standards and for preparing students for DELF/DALF C1 examinations.
I convene and coordinate French language provision within the Language Experience for All Programme (LEAP) and have played a key role in curriculum development across undergraduate programmes. I am currently designing and leading a new online course, French for Healthcare (launching 2025–26).
