Biography

Dr Gareth Hughes is a Consultant in Intensive Care & Respiratory Medicine at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester.  He graduated with a bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery degree from the University of Manchester in 2007.  He has undertaken further postgraduate studies in workplace based postgraduate medical education and health care ethics and law.  Dr Hughes has undertaken training within the North West in Intensive Care and Respiratory Medicine.  He has a particular interest in the management of interstitial lung disease and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Dr Hughes has a keen interest in both undergraduate and postgraduate education with experience of representing trainees at both local and national level.  He is a member of the Education & Training Committee of the British Thoracic Society having previously served on the Council and Standards of Care Committee.

Dr Hughes is actively engaged in clinical research and has experience as a principal investigator and co-investigator in a range of phase 2 - 3 clinical trials covering respiratory and critical care medicine.
