Overview

Gillian Ulph is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Law and was awarded Senior Fellowship of the HEA in 2023. She has been an active member of the Teaching and Learning Team in the department since 2007, as Programme Director for the LLB English Law with French Law and then the LLB Law programmes, and had responsibility for the exchange programmes in Law for many years. She co-led the LLB curriculum review project from 2019-2022, and completed the Leaders in Teaching programme in 2021. She is currently completing the PGCertHE at the University of Manchester.

Teaching and Pedagogy
Gillian has been Course Director for the undergraduate Land Law, Property Law I, and Equity and Trusts units, having designed each of these units, and has taught on and supported the design of the Property Law II and Introduction to Law and Legal Skills units. She also developed the Study Support tutor role in the department and supported a bespoke Academic Skills unit for undergraduate and postgraduate Law students. She has a strong interest in curriculum design and pedagogy, and has led a number of innovative developments across these different course units, recognised by nominations for teaching awards and receiving Exceptional Performance awards in the Faculty of Humanities for these roles.

Gillian has a particular interest in assessment and feedback and has been awarded funding for joint staff-student co-creation projects to review and develop student-centred resources to support assessment and feedback literacy. She has run workshops on supporting assessment and feedback literacy, on using multiple choice questions for assessments, and championing the role of student partnership and co-creation in teaching, learning, assessment and feedback. She also participated in the HEA Integrated Professional Development Course for Law External Examiners for North-West Degree Standards consortium and has acted as external examiner for a number of UK HE institutions.
