Personal profile
Overview
Overview
I am a practicing General Practitioner in the Staffordshire Moorlands and Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Manchester’s Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research. My research focuses primarily on the early detection of disease, with a particular emphasis on the earlier identification of younger-onset cancer within primary care settings.
Biography
Having completed my clinical training and attained Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2017, I have since demonstrated a strong dedication to advancing primary care research and education. This commitment is reflected in my attainment of a Master of Medical Science (MMedSci) in Primary Care and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education along with my publication record.
Research Interests
Currently, I am investigating the role of faecal immunochemical testing in younger adults as a tool for early detection of colorectal cancer, building on the foundation of my recently completed NIHR In Practice Fellowship. Much of my previous research has involved using healthcare records for prognostic and diagnostic research, but I also have experience in qualitative methods and creative methods for research.
Beyond my research, I serve as the Cancer Lead for the Leek and Biddulph Primary Care Network and contribute to regional cancer strategy as a member of the West Midlands Cancer Alliance Primary Care Expert Advisory Group. I am also actively engaged in international primary care collaborations, including my role on the organising committee for the CaPRI (Cancer in Primary Care) International Conference.
Complementing my clinical and leadership responsibilities, I contribute to the wider research community as a peer reviewer for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the journal Health Expectations, underscoring my ongoing commitment to evidence-based practice and high-quality research.
