Biography
Undergraduate degree at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg) and posgraduate stufy at the University of Oxford (B.Phil.). I lectured at the University of Witwatersrand and the University of Bradford before moving to New Zealand to be a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury. I have held Visiting Professorships at King's College (London), the University of Connecticut (USA), and Queen's University (Belfast). I have published in the areas of philosophy of mind, teleosemantics, philosophy of social science, and the philosophy of Karl Popper. Co-authored books include Semantics and Social Science (with Philip Pettit), and co-edited volumes include Fact, Science, and Morality (with Crispin Wright), Teleosemantics (with David Papineau), and Emergence in Mind and Reading McDowell (both with Cynthia Macdonald).
