Overview

Hatoon al-Fassi is a Saudi historian, Associate Professor of pre-Islamic Arabian History and women's history. Honorary Fellow of Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies in Manchester University. Worked and taught at King Saud University and Qatar University for 30 years. A columnist for 27 years in Saudi and Arab newspapers. Her recent and fifth book, published in 2021. She publishes in Arabic and English.

In 2018, she was received the Academic Freedom Award, by MESA. 

In 2012, she was decorated “Knight" in the order of National Merit by the French President.

Her specialty, interest, devotion and research and action cover ancient Arabian history with a concentration on women’s history of Arabia. Her main area of research is Nabataea of Saudi Arabia and Jordan, however, her teaching and research extended to the history of Arabia, the Gulf, and the Middle East in Islamic and modern times and gender studies.

 

Her book Women in Pre-Islamic Arabia: Nabataea (2007) is found on Amazon. The Arabic translation Nabataean Women in Ancient Arabia appeared in June 2021 by the Saudi Society for Archaeological Studies, Riyadh.
