Overview
Holly is a technician in the School of Education, Environment, and Development Laboratories at The University of Manchester. Her primary role is assisting students, staff, and researchers in their laboratory work, including sample preparation, analysis, and method development. She also supports staff and students with field work, providing them with PPE, demonstrating field equipment, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate field courses.
Biography
Holly studied BSc Chemistry at The University of Huddersfield, focusing her dissertation on environmental chemistry with research in water quality in West Yorkshire. She then completed an MSc in Environmental Geology and Contamination at The University of Portsmouth, researching metal contamination and PAH concentrations in roadside soils.
She has worked in technical roles throughout her career. As Environmental Fate Scientist at a GLP accredited CRO, she carried out OECD studies on the behaviour of chemicals in the environment, including their flux and degradation. She has also worked in manufacturing roles in GMP accredited facilities, supporting production as a Quality Control Chemistry Technician for medical devices, and a Paint Appearance Analyst for automobile manufacturing.
Holly has worked in higher education for several years as a technician in both research and teaching. She supported the teaching laboratories at Newcastle University as a Chemical Teaching Technician, and then moved into a research role as a Geochemical Research Technician in the same university.
