Biography

Dr Iliada Eleftheriou is a Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences at The University of Manchester, in the School of Health Sciences, Division of Informatics, Images and Data Science. She has a background in Computer Science and particularly Software Engineering and specialises in mapping data movements through complex data landscapes to identify and address socio-technical challenges stemming from disparate information systems and data formats. She works closely with other universities, industry, and health partners to drive digital transformation projects in clinical settings, specialising in investigating the feasibility of embedding data science projects and digital tools into large and complex environments ranging from smaller projects like moving online, on to more challenging projects involving Artificial Intelligence.

Dr Eleftheriou is a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Information Board supporting the delivery of the new information strategy across the health, police, transport and voluntary sectors across Greater Manchester. Dr Eleftheriou co-leads the UK-wide Cancer Research UK (CRUK) community network on health data systems, and is an honorary digital consultant at The Christie NHS F.T. translating innovations in practice to improve patient outcomes and optimise clinical pathways.

Dr Eleftheriou works closely with national organisations including HDRUK and NHS England (former Health Education England) to build capacity in the NHS in the area of health data science, supported by the recently released AI and Digital Healthcare Technologies Capability Framework. She is the Deputy Director of the Clinical Data Science programme at The University of Manchester. Dr Eleftheriou designed and delivered modules on Health Informatics, Clinical Data Science, Clinical Data Engineering, Impact of Artificial Intelligence, Modern Information Engineering and Health Information Engineering.
