Personal profile

Overview

My research spans across the fields of Mathematics and Statistics. I’m interested in the interactions between the two fields and their applications to Health research.
My recent research has focused on spatial mathematics and statistics, statistical learning, and their applications to Public Health. I am particularly interested in spatial epidemiology with a focus on Alcohol availability, consumption patterns, and harm. This work is currently funded by the MRC (Skills Development fellowship), the NIHR, and the Scottish and Northern Irish governments. I am a founding organiser of the Early Career Alcohol Research Symposium, currently funded by the Society for the Study of Addiction.
My work in Health Statistics includes the development of hospital performance measures relating to the quality and safety of care offered to patients, based on the analysis of large routine observational data, as well as the development and review of statistical methods in clinical trials.

My research in Mathematics focuses on Commutative and Homological Algebra, and their connections to Representation Theory, Algebraic Geometry and Singularity Theory.
